Life can be a bumpy start, it's easier with a helping hand

Whether a human baby, a vegetable garden or a giant Redwood tree. All life can do with a little help now and then.

To give our trees the best chance we can, we enlist the support of agronomy experts. Specialists in parasites, soil nutrients and organic sapling protection methods. There's no point planting 1000 seeds if only 100 survive.

We've soiled ourselves

Step one for successful growth is a nurturing soil. The balance between various minerals, nitrates and phosphates within the soil is crucial. A swing in any direction can have large effects on the tiny saplings.

This is why within the laboratory in Lincolnshire we can within hours run tests on all soil samples. Whether collected within the field (aka forest) or from our nurseries.

Water, water, water

The next very important step is water and lots of it.

We run tests on all our water suppliers, again, ensuring the appropriate levels of nitrate. The best water is untreated rainwater, the circle of life and without the chemicals put into our tap water.

A warm start

To meet global demands we need to be planting all year, which means planting within the colder months.

The only way to do this is to plant them within greenhouses and polytunnels. Pretty simple when you think about it.
